In an overview of SDB, circumstances that SBD is applicable are discussed. This is followed by a state-of-art review of world-wide development in SBD, both codified procedures and present research.

About the speaker:  Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanics and Materials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  He is a leading authority in the structural integrity of welds.  He is recognized worldwide as a leading expert on the strain-based design of modern high strength pipelines. He has been one of the primary contributors to the weld integrity programs of the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI).  In addition to his research activities, Dr. Wang consults with owner, operating, construction companies in the onshore and offshore energy industries.  Dr. Wang has authored over 70 technical papers.  He was the principal editor of three ASME PVP (Pressure Vessel and Piping) volumes on fracture, fatigue, material testing and characterization, and welding. He is the principal architect and author of the revised API Standard 1104 Appendix A (expected to be published in 2007) and the strain-based design procedures in CSA Z662 Annex C (to be published in 2007).
